Dear Kids, Here's The Real Reason I Made You Believe In Santa
Dear Kids,
One of these days you're going to come home upset and full of questions. A child on the playground will say Santa isn't real and you'll want to know....did I make up the whole thing? Why would I do that?
The reason I filled your heart with stories about the North Pole, reindeer, and elves wasn't to trick you, it was to give you something that was given to me: the magic of believing.
When I was a little girl, my parents told me about Santa. On Christmas Eve, I'd leave him cookies by the back porch and rush off to bed with hope in my heart. It was so hard to fall asleep, my head was dizzy from excitement over the visit of all visits that would happen that night. Had I been good enough? Was I going to make the Nice List? In the morning, I'd wake up with a start. I'd run downstairs and be dazzled by the bulging stockings and gifts that seemed to come from nowhere.
I didn't realize it until I became an adult but what I felt on Christmas morning wasn't about the presents. I can barely remember any of them. What mattered was that Santa cared enough about me to fly all the way from the North Pole through the cold winter air to bring me a gift.
Just the thought of it made me feel so special.
Then one day, just a you did, I realized who my Santa really was. Was I disappointed? A little. But as I grew up, I realized that my Santas cared about me so much that they told me a beautiful story that even thinking about today fills me with the warm feelings from my childhood.
As you grow up, you'll realize that it's not about who your Santa is, but that you have one. And that you can BE one. You can make someone you care about feel as special as you did imagining Santa visiting you. That's the true gift, and as you grow, you'll understand that more and more.
The belief in Santa is a gift that will live inside of you forever. Let it inspire you to give it to someone else. My child, the best part of life is being able to give to others. Do it with a joyful heart and you can carry the spirit of this holiday with you year round.
