Three Ways Having a Pet is Nothing Like Having a Kid

I get that people love their fur babies like a human child, but the two are actually nothing alike. Here are three ways having a pet is nothing at all like having a kid.

1. Level of supervision: The level of supervision for a pet and a child are completely different. Sure, there are some needy dogs and cats out there, and sure, they miss their owners after a long day of work, but you can't leave any five-year old at home all day while you go out and make money.

2. Goals: You're not raising a dog to live on their own and contribute to society one day. Animals are loved companions. When you're raising a child, you're not doing it for company, you're trying to raise a responsible adult.

3. Purpose: Children are raised to be independent of you. You're not teaching your cat how to make it in the world one day. Dogs don't need to know how to care for themselves.

Can someone love an animal fiercely? Of course, I have. But is having a pet like having a kid? No.

What do you think?

  1. Only three ways? I love my pets, but seriously.... You cannot love a pet the same way as a child because it simply does not require the investment of EVERY part of your life.
